TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Pamong Praja Bekasi public order officers (Satpol PP) raided 23 homeless people and beggars during the Ramadan weekend. “They are seasonal beggars,” said Bekasi Satpol PP secretary, Charles Aritonang, Sunday, July 6.
According to Charles, those beggars were disciplined because they had disturbed pedestrians and the city’s attractiveness around Jalan Ahmad Yani, Cut Meutia, KH Noer Ali, Sudirman, and Juanda. “Most of them were from Karawang, Bogor, and Tangerang," he explained.
Besides regulating them, he said, his party had also disciplined punk children because they often disturb pedestrians. “Moreover they veer toward criminal activities,” he uttered.
He said, the people who had been raided, were immediately handed to the Social Affairs ministry in Bulak Kapal, East Bekasi, to be educated. Unfortunately, they often ran away and returned to the roads. When in fact the institution provides skills, moreover their living expenses in there are covered by the government.
