TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A Vienna-headquartered road telematics company, Kapsch TrafficCom, is set to to do a trial run of the electronic road pricing (ERP) system on Jl. Sudirman in South Jakarta.
The Head of Jakarta Transportation Agency, Mohammad Akbar, said the trial run by Kapsch would complete a similar trial run on Jl. Rasuna Said, Kuningan, South Jakarta by a Norwegian company, Q-Free.
"Next week, a gantry in front of Ratu Plaza shopping mall on Jl. Sudirman would be installed as a tryout," Akbar told Tempo yesterday, adding that Kapsch was currently making preparations to install the ERP gantry.
The location of ERP gantry is exactly at the end of Jl. Sudirman, right in front of Ratu Plaza mall.
The gantry will only be installed in the slow lane. There have been yet signs of construction until now. However, a board sign bearing the notice: "The tryout of ERP gantry will be done here (Di sini akan ada uji coba gerbang ERP)" has been put in place.
Both Kapsch and Q-Free are scheduled to hold the tryout to see whether the system applied is ready. The tryout was also aimed at testing whether the scanner in the gantry could scan passing cars.
"However, they still have to join the tender if the ERP program will really be implemented," said Akbar. The tender is expected to begin by the end of this year.
