TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Media conglomerate Media Nusantara Citra (MNC) has introduced a fiber-optic-based multimedia service named Play Media, which provides internet and cable TV services.
"The market for telecommunication is huge but the internet penetration is very small," MNC Play Media commercial director Ade Tjendra told Tempo on Tuesday, June 24, 2014.
Ade added that the service aimed at youngsters who need fast internet access with high-quality contents.
Play Media claims it offers internet services with speeds ranging from 7 Mb/second to 200 Mb/second. Such connection speeds are claimed to be stable even in a poor weather condition.
The service is also claimed to be uninterruptible since the fiber optic technology is free from limited frequency issues.
Ade highlighted the cable TV service could be enjoyed on any types of television. The contents of the service come from Indovision, satellite-based cable TV owned by MNC. The main feature of the service is that it allows subscribers to watch TV programs seven days after being aired.
Ade said Play Media services targeted the upper-middle class living in major cities in Indonesia.
"We are aiming at two million subscribers within the next three years," he said.
