TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) is ready to protect human rights victims of the Master Plan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesian Economic Development (MP3EI), a program previously headed by former Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa, the running mate of Prabowo Subianto, who has been replaced with Chairul Tanjung.
LPSK deputy chief Edwin Partogi Pasaribu said that the protection will be provided as a follow-up to the International Federation on Human Rights' (IFHR) data regarding the effects of MP3EI on human rights.
"This data will be used a material to review the plea for protection regarding human rights violation allegations in the implementation of MP3EI," said Edwin on Wednesday, June 25, 2014.
Antoine Madeline, IFHR's international director of advocacy, said Indonesia has committed several human rights violations in implementing MP3EI. Some of the sectors prone to human rights violations are plantation and religious freedom. She added that this data has been submitted to the United Nations, the Indonesian government and the UN Economic and Social Council.
