TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Heavy rain that hit Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang and Bekasi on Sunday afternoon, June 15, has made Ciliwung River to overflow. As a result, residential areas on the banks of Ciliwung river, especially Kampung Pulo, Kampung Melayu, Jatinegara, East Jakarta have been submerged by a meter high of floodwaters.
"The flood has gone up again after the two meter high of floodwaters went down yesterday," said Syarief (41), a resident of Pulo village to Tempo, Sunday, June 15.
According to Syarief, if the water in Katulampa reservoir did not rise, then he expected the flood in the village would soon recede. "Katampula is currently 20 centimeters, so the flood would quickly recede. But, if it was high there, it could be more than 2 meters here," he explained.
The tunnel on the side of the Ciliwung river near Bukit Duri, South Jakarta, he said, did not free Kampung Pulo residents from floods. "They've only made tunnels in that area, not here, so there are still floods here," he explained.
