TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police revealed on Thursday that three inmates at Cipinang Penitentiary in East Jakarta and Nusa Kambangan in Central Java were the kingpins of a syndicate that smuggled illegal drugs from India to Jakarta through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, as reported by Antara News.
Head of the narcotic crimes directorate at the National Police, Brig. Gen. Arman Depari, said that the prisoners' roles were discovered after six members of the syndicate were arrested on Thursday.
"We arrested six suspects and seized 4.3 kilograms of shabu-shabu. The suspects hid the contraband inside thread spools and vehicle spare-parts," he said, referring to methamphetamine by its local name.
According to the initial investigation, the illegal drugs were distributed in Jakarta, Surakarta, Surabaya and Pontianak.
