TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Ismail Hasani, research director at Setara Institute, said on Monday that Jokowi and Jusuf Kalla (JK) have better vision and mission in religious freedom than Prabowo and Hatta's.
According to Ismail, Jokowi-JK are more systematic in identifying problems and formulating solutions. One of them is Jokowi will reduce the implementation of regional sharia law, which is viewed positively as it upholds national integrity, though it can be used accuse Jokowi of being anti-Islam.
Jokowi also had experiences in handling religious freedom, which can be seen in the placement of Sub-district chief Susan Jasmin in Lenteng Agung and decrease in religious violence cases in Solo during when Jokowi was the city's mayor. However, JK's ways in dealing with social tensions in the past contrast Jokowi's current view.
On the other hand, Prabowo-Hatta have no experience in managing religious freedom. Moreover, one of their supporting parties does not have strong commitment in religious freedom. The pair also gathers support from the FPI, which is notorious for committing violence in the name of religions.
Prabowo-Hatta promise religious freedom in their vision and mission. They had already revoked religious purification idea after protests from many people.
The two pairs of presidential hopefuls have passed KPU’s presidential and vice presidential candidates selection. Their vision and mission have also been posted for the public to see through kpu.go.id.
