TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In order to ease the air traffic congestion at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Banten, the Jakarta administration plans to build an airport in Marunda, North Jakarta, says acting governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama, as reported by Antara News.
Ahok said that local developer PT Marindo Bahtera Development had already completed a preliminary design for the new airport.
"Aside from easing congestion at Soekarno-Hatta, the new airport will also be used for freight distribution that will be part of integrated logistics management in North Jakarta," Ahok said as quoted by antaranews.com.
North Jakarta is home to Tanjung Priok Port, which is the country’s main seaport. Currently, the area is being developed in order to facilitate companies importing and exporting goods to and from the city.
Apart from the new airport, the city administration was also planning to build two seaports in North Jakarta, Ahok said.
