TEMPO.CO, Barcelona - Barcelona's Lionel Messi wants his side to win La Liga as a tribute to former coach Tito Vilanova, who recently passed away of cancer. "We want to win this League," Messi said during an interview at a publicity event in Switzerland. "After everything that has happened, we could dedicate it to Tito."
Messi said the season had been peculiar, seeing that the top three contenders: Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, slipped in the final fixtures. As a result, the league title is to be decided on a finale at Camp Nou this weekend, when Blaugrana takes on Atletico Madrid.
Barcelona now collect 86 points, three points behind Atletico on top of the table. However, Barcelona can still win the title, given that they win the final fixture of the season.
"Finishing the year by winning the League would be good, I don’t know if it would salvage the season but it would be a very important title," said Messi.
