TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta International School (JIS) head, Timothy Carr, has visited education expert, Arief Rahman, in the office of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Senayan, Jakarta, yesterday. In the meeting, Carr consulted to Arief on what he should do concerning the sexual abuse case that occured in his school.
"Carr came by with a student guardian," said Arief In the meeting, Arief conveyed several things to JIS, such as: The school must obey the government laws and be cooperative, legal issues regarding sexual abuse must be done with legal standards, and also that the students must complete the program, eventhough the kindergarten is closed. Arief suggested not to let other students be affected with the learning process due to this case of immoral act.
Other than that, Arief said that JIS must fix their management, monitoring and the facilities in the school. Arief claimed that he himself has never seen JIS Kindergarten. But for the kindergarten facilities, there are terms regarding the infrastructure. "For example, for the kindergarten bathroom, the height must be appropriate and also other facilities that must be suitable," he said.
Lately, JIS has been a public highlight as a result of the sexual abuse case suspected to be done by the janitors in the school. Also, the school that was build in 1992, has not received official license from the Ministry of Education and Culture. JIS officials stated they will complete the datas as requested by the government to solve the license matter.
