TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo relies on reservors to ward off potential floods in Jakarta due to recent heavy rain. "We have built many new reservoirs," said Jokowi yesterday.
The governor said there would be a new reservoir construction tomorrow "and also river dredging."
The Public Works Agency plans on adding more reservoirs at Kampung Rambutan and Brigih, East Jakarta. These reservoirs augments the rows of reservoirs in Jakarta; Marunda, Giri Kencana, Pondok Rangon and Rawa Kendal. Another reservoir waiting for construction is Ciawi Reservoir.
Jakarta, this year, is targeting nine big reservoirs and 15 small reservoirs or ponds to hold water. The average size of the reservoirs is 50 to 60 hectares.
