TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The mother of the student who was sexually abused at the Jakarta International School said the school had accused her of telling a lie as part of its latest attempts to muffle the case. “They sent e-mails to other parents, telling that my story was a lie,” she told Tempo.
The e-mails were sent to other parents only one day after the victim's mother held a press conference last week. She said that she had asked the school to notify other parents about the incident “so that they become aware of such things and let no such things happen to their children.”
The case has been in the spotlight ever since it made headline last week, with a number of foreign media scrutinizing the case through their stories. SMH reported the incident with the title "Jakarta International School child rape claim shocks expat community".
Daily Mail on Sunday also reported the incident, writing "Boy, five, raped in the toilets by two cleaning staff at prestigious Jakarta International School". The incident is still being probed and the Jakarta Police have named two outsourced janitors at the school as suspects.
