TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Education and Culture Ministry has sent a letter of reprimand to the Jakarta International School (JIS) today. The ministry’s early childhood, non-formal and informal education director general Lydia Freyani Hawadi said the letter also demanded the school be closed.
“The closure does not only apply to its kindergarten, but also its early childhood education practices,” Lydia said yesterday.
According to Lydia, JIS has violated Article 71 of the Law number 20/2003 regarding the national system education because it had not obtained a permit from the Education Ministry to operate its kindergarten. The ministry said it would also file report with the police.
Lydia said that despite the requested closing of the school, JIS still had to be responsible and take care of its students. The ministry, according to Lydia, would intervene in the case if JIS called it for assistance. The ministry said it would coordinate with the Jakarta administration to find other schools for the students.
“A number of schools can accommodate them,” she said.
