TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Democrat Party's chairman of the advisory board, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), said Democrat is ready to be an opposition if coalition calls from other parties are not in line with the vision of the party. The Democrat Party is free to express its political view, he said.
"We have a freedom to choose, whether to join a coalition of to stand on our feet. We are also open to a possibility to be a smart and constructive opposition," SBY said at a press briefing broadcast on YouTube.
The Democrat Party is also ready to coalesce, said SBY. But they could not afford to make a sloppy political decision, especially when the party’s votes slumped in the 2014 legislative election. Presidential and vice presidential candidates, coalition and opposition are crucial because they would determine Indonesian political life for the next five years.
"The Democrat Party will soon make a decision whether to support particular presidential and vice presidential candidates," said SBY.
