TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jepara District, Central Java, has a handicraft museum with collections of various crafting that utilizes a warehouse of Jepara State Junior High School (SMP Negeri) 6 that is located in Jalan Kartini.

According to Deputy Regent of Jepara, Subroto, in Jepara, this museum was inaugurated on April 12, 2014, so that people could visit the museum to know the various crafting collections.

There is even a handicraft collection that is quite old. He said that the carving was a student's masterpiece since 1929.

Handicrafting has been running through the veins of the residents of Jepara, so this carving museum is hope to be a community attraction to pursue in handicrafting.

If there are any student level of carving competition, he said, the winner's art craft could also be put in the museum to give it’s own pride to the contestants.

The Principal of SMPN 6 Jepara, Darsono, positively welcomes the existence of this museum craft that utilizes the warehouse in SMPN 6 Jepara.

"At least the students will acknowledge the various craft collections, and it will hopefully be an attraction for them to pursue the art of handicraft," he said.

Each collection is named for the type of carving and years of manufacture so that every visitor will be amazed to see a wide collection of  the engravings.

The SMPN 6 Jepara bulding was built in 1929 at the time of the Dutch East Indies with the name Open Bare Ambacht School and has changed name several times such as Pertukangan School in 1945-1949, until it changed name into SMPN 6 Jepara from 2002 until now.
