TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of Education and Culture, Muhammad Nuh, said to be waiting for investigation results from the investigation team on operating permit of Jakarta International School (JIS) Kindergarten. There has yet to be confirmation whether there is any violation of operating permit in the school.
"I don't know yet. We give time for the team to investigate. It must have been done in one month," said Minister Nuh.
The investigation team, led by Lydia Freyani Hawad, the director general of informal and non-formal early childhood education, will check the validity of the permit. The sanction will be decided based on the team's findings. "The heaviest sanction possible is permit revocation," said the minister.
Lydia said JIS kindergarten had fulfilled the general requirement, that is to have 51 percent of educators and 20 percent of students to be Indonesian citizens. JIS has also fulfilled the standards of teaching compulsory subjects such as civic education, Indonesian language, religion and history.
JIS kindergarten is viewed illegal as the school actually has permits only for elementary and middle schools, and none for the early childhood education. This permit issue came up after the sexual harassment case towards kindergarten students.
