TEMPO.CO, Moscow - The Federation of Migrants of Russia has asked Russian officials to allow them to enlist in military service. They said only unity and common effort could be an effective defense from foreign threats.
"Millions of migrants who currently live in Russian territory, including the former citizens of USSR are ready to serve in the armed forces and participate in the defense of the Russian Federation," the federation stated in a letter, as reported by RT.
Based on a data of the organization, the number of migrant workers in Russia has reached 10.6 million people. Most of them entered the country illegally as the quota for foreign workers in Russia is 1.6 million in 2014. Meanwhile, a few thousands of others work in private companies.
Russia allowed foreign citizens to enlist in its military service under certain conditions, including passing Russian language and physical tests.
