TEMPO.CO, Riyadh - The Chief of Saudi Intelligence, Prince Bandar bin Sultan, is reported to have resigned from his position. This resignation is described as "at his own request".
Quoted from Al Jazeera yesterday, Prince Bandar bin Sultan was replaced by his deputy, Yousef al-Idrissi. The chief has also served as a Saudi Ambassador to the United States. He is considered to be one of the influential politicians in the Middle East.
The resignation was reportedly due to his health condition. Prince Bandar bin Sultan is known to have fled to foreign countries several times for a couple of months due to health reasons. However there was no further information concerning the matter.
Currently Prince Bandar bin Sultan's responsibilitiy in supporting the rebels in fighting the Syrian Government, President Bashar al-Assad, is handed over to the Minister of Domestic Affairs, Prince Mohammed bin Nayef.
