TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has issued a policy on the gradual hike of electricity rate for industries this year.

The ministry’s regulation No. 9 Year 2014 stipulates power rate will escalate bi-monthly on May 1, July 1, September 1, and November 1.

The regulation, which has been signed by ESDM Minister Jero Wacik, said the increased rate would affect two types of consumers.

The first group includes type I-3 consumers: industries using power of above 200,000 watts and listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI).

The second group comprises type I-4 consumers, or industries consuming electricity over 30,000 watts.

“The I-3 listed companies will see an 8.6 percent increase bi-monthly while the I-4 consumers 13.3 percent bi-monthly,” said Jarman, the ministry’s director general of electricity on Wednesday, April 16, 2014.

The electricity rate for listed companies, which is currently pegged at Rp803 per kilowatt-hour, will rise gradually to Rp1,115 per kilowatt-hour on November 1, 2014.

Power rate for large industries, meanwhile, which presently stands at Rp723 per kilowatt-hour, will increase in stages to Rp1,191 per kilowatt-hour.
