TEMPO.CO, Bekasi - The Bekasi Administration will add more parking spaces for bicycles at the city’s bus shelters. The move was made to encourage local cyclists to use public transportation. Bekasi Transportation Agency head Supandi Budiman said on Tuesday there were two bicycle parking spots in the city.
Supandi explained the parking spaces for bicycles were similar to metal fences, but the capacity of the spaces could only accomodate six bicycles. He added the spaces would be operational soon.
“It will be developed. This is just a trial,” Supandi said.
According to Supandi, the construction of the parking spaces sought to Bekasi residents to use bicycles and reduce the use of private cars.
Supandi added, however, that cyclists need to use their own security tools, such as pad locks, when they parked their bicycles at the shelters.
“We will discuss whether the parking spaces should be guarded by an officer,” he said.
