TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Google officially acquired drone manufacturing company Titan Aerospace on Monday, April 14, 2014. However, the Internet giant refused to mention the price of the acquisition.
Google acquired Titan to help the company to collect aerial view pictures using solar-powered drone. But some predicted that the acquisition was related to Google's effort to develop Project Loon, a research on using air balloon to provide internet connection to remote areas.
Titan Aerospace itself has developed drones for various functions such as sending data, monitoring plants as well as finding locations to deliver aid.
"Titan Aerospace and Google share a profound optimism about the potential for technology to improve the world," Google said as quoted by USA Today on Monday.
