TEMPO.CO, Tokyo – Hundreds of tons of water containing radioactive compound might have been discharged over a wrong reservoir. Xinhua reported that the Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) has released a statement that around 203 tons of radioactive water from the former Fukushima Dai-ichi power plant was miscarried.
Tepco stated that the accumulated cesium level reached over 37 million becquerels per liter, while the normal threshold is at 25 becquerels per liter. However, Tepco believed that the contamination will only be accumulated in the reservoir, without any possibility of leaking. Radiation reading from the surrounding ground water showed no significant change.
Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant was heavily damaged in an earthquake and tsunami back in 2011. As a result, Jepang faced a series of catastrophic troubles, including radioactive leaks and blackouts.
