TEMPO.CO, Kiev - In response to the escalating tension in Ukraine following the annexation of Crimea by Russia, Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned his fellow Ukrainian that they are "on the verge of a civil war". BBC reported that President Putin made the comments in a phone call to German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
After the Crimean referendum, tension in the eastern front of Ukraine continues to escalate. Pro-Russian groups have seized a number of buildings in 10 cities in eastern Ukraine, causing Kiev to launch a military operation on Tuesday, April 15, 2014. The pro-Russian groups are demanding greater autonomy or referendums on secession from Ukraine.
A military airfield at Kramatorsk was by armed pro-Russia groups last week. Ukrainian security force then claimed that they managed to regain control of the facility in a gunfight that killed one person.
