TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo claimed that Jakarta currently sits on top of the Global Ranking of Emerging Cities, released by AT Kearney consultant. "[The ranking] can be used for evaluation," Jokowi said. "The assessment has taken place since 18 months ago, in which Jakarta ended up being on top position."
Jokowi stated that the assessment result also related with the transportation infrastructure planning, such as the MRT and monorail. Moreover, two other factors that helped Jakarta to claim the first position are flood and basic needs management, including the implementation of Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) and Jakarta Health Card (KJS).
In addition, John Kurtz, the Head of Representatives at AT Kearney Asia-Pacific, stated that Jakarta is a city that made the greatest infrastructure improvement compared to 21 other cities in other nations. The survey, he added, serves to figure out how cities in developing countries improve their global index in the next two decades. "The direction and leadership in Jakarta has brought some new optimisms," Kurtz said. "Jakarta can improve more in global community, as it has owned a particular attraction."
