TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Public Works Agency head, Manggas Rudy Siahaan, said yesterday that two new reservoirs will be operational next week. Both reservoirs are located in Kampung Rambutan and Brigif, East Jakarta, adding to the list of reservoirs in Jakarta after Marunda, Giri Kencana, Pondok Rangon and Rawa Kendal.
This year, Jakarta has targeted to accomplish 9 large reservoirs and 15 smaller ones to contain water. The average size of the large reservoirs is 50-60 hectares "to reduce pool of waters", said Manggas.
Manggas said the new reservoirs are of Jakarta administration measures to mitigate floods. Other measures include dredging rivers and reservoirs, building canals and managing water.
