TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Hunger Games: Catching Fire bested 12 Years of Slave, the supreme Oscar winner, in the MTV Movie Awards 2014 at Nokia Theatre, Los Angeles, yesterday April 13. The Suzanne Collins' novel adaptation ruled out other nominees such as American Hustle, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and The Wolf of Wall Street.
Associated Press reported that the movie, setting place in a dystopia future, won the awards for best male and female performance. The Hunger Games' lead actress Jennifer Lawrence, previously known for her surprising Oscar winning upon the Silver Lining Playbook, previously nailed a Golden Globe award for her role as Rosalyn Rosenfeld in the American Hustle. JLaw's counterpart in the movie, John Hutcherson, scored a surprising award that night, as the tiny man won the best actor for his role as Peeta Mellark in Hunger Games trilogy.
Hutcherson's winning at best male performance were later objectified by a score of other stars, jokingly commented that it was supposed be Matthew McConaughey that won the award for his defining role at Dallas Buyers Club. Another epic moment captured in the event was at Paul Walker's special tribute, as clips from a number of his films and a glimpse of footage of the actor accepting the MTV movie award for breakthrough male performance in 2002 were shown.
