TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Awakening Party (PKB)’s central executive board chairman Helmy Faishal Zaini said his party would announce which coalition axis it chose to engage in to face the presidential elections in July. He added the PKB was currently in talks with the two coalition axes spearheaded by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra).
“Talks with both axes have entered the final stage,” Helmy said on Tuesday, April 15, 2014.
Helmy said the PKB was proposing its vice presidential candidates—Rhoma Irama, Mahfud Md., and Jusuf Kalla—to both parties.
“Talks for possible coalitions also involve power sharing in the future government. Perhaps we will announce which party we decide to have a coalition with next week,” Helmy said.
Helmy admitted the party also proposed its chair, Muhaimin Iskandar, as a vice presidential candidate for PDI-P’s Jokowi and Gerindra’s Prabowo Subianto. He said the decision, however, was Gerindra’s or PDI-P’s to make.
