TEMPO.CO, Abuja - Boko Haram rebel-fighters have launched another attack, killing at least 60 people in Nigeria's troubled northeastern Borno state, close to the border with Cameroon.
"The attackers, who are no doubt Boko Haram insurgents, attacked Amchaka and nearby villages this morning," Baba Shehu Gulumba, a local government administrator, told AFP news agency, as cited by Al Jazeera.
Gulumbu explained the attackers stormed the villages using trucks, motorcycles, and two armoured vehicles, shooting residents and torching homes. "They then went on a shooting spree," he said.
The deadly attacks have prompted a mass exodus of people from villages in the area. In light of the attack, around 400 students in the state had also boycotted university entrance exams on Saturday.
Boko Haram militiamen have called for an Islamic State at northern Nigeria through a series of bloody attacks. There have been at least 250,000 displaced residents, fleeing their place for fear of Boko Haram's attacks.
