TEMPO.CO, Islamabad - A group of armed militia of the the Tehreek-e-Taliban have reportedly abducted at least 40 people suspected of committing illegal drug activities in Pakistan's northern Tirah valley, Al Jazeera reported. Tirah valley is part of the Khyber Agency, a tribal area where the Taliban is a powerful force.
"Officials are now confirming these [abducted] people were involved in some drug related business and there was a big fair where different kinds of drugs were put on sale," Zahir Zheraz, a Peshawar-based journalist, reported.
However, the exact number of the kidnapped civilians remained unconfirmed as some local reports put the number of the abducted at 100. The abduction took place as leaders of the Taliban were considering whether to extend its ceasefire agreement and continue peace talks with Islamabad.
