TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo inaugurated today the renovation of the food court at Block G, Tanah Abang Market, Central Jakarta on Monday. The project took place following the completed rearrangement of food vendors at that location.
On the occasion, Jokowi said he hoped all vendors would thrive in their business. “I used to refuse to eat here because it was dirty, but now it’s clean and I want to eat here,” said Jokowi.
Jokowi said when he first arrived at the food court about one and a half year ago, the food court was dirty. “There were a lot of flies. The gutter was stinky. The garbage was piling up,” he said. However, since the revitalization of the food court, which began in December 2013, the food court has become cleaner and tidier.
“After this, there will be escalators and a bridge from the station,” said Jokowi. He added after those facilities were completed, Block G would be more crowded and generate higher income for the vendors.
According to PD Pasar Jaya director Djangga Lubis, there are 103 vendors at the food court presently. “The renovation costs around Rp1.2 billion,” he said. Djangga added the budget stemmed from donations by several banks such as Bank Indonesia, Bank DKI, Bank Rakyat Indonesia and Bank Central Asia.
