TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The West Jakarta Police have arrested a perpetrator for assaulting Agustinus Reinhard, Saturday. The suspect with the initial R or Pon was working as the coordinator of debt collectors for a bank in Kota, Taman Sari, West Jakarta.
"He has been followed since last week and was arrested yesterday [Friday] in Kota," said the West Jakarta Police's spokesman, Kompol Herru Julianto. The perpetrator has violated Article 351 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) on Violence. "He could be jailed for five years," said Kompol Herru.
The incident took place on April 2, when Agus confirmed a credit card arrear that was under his sibling's name at a bank branch in Kota, West Jakarta. He was puzzled since according to his sibling’s invoice, they still owed the bank of Rp5 million, when in fact it had been paid off a year ago. After he enquired the matter, he was assaulted by the suspect at the bank’s parking area.
The police released no details on why the suspect assaulted the victim. "It is still under investigation." At first, both parties were about to reconcile peacefully and the perpetrator had promised to pay the victim’s medical fees. However, when he was hospitalized, there was an allegation on fake withdrawal of police report "when in fact, the victim has never signed it," said Kompol Herru.
The police have finally decided to process the case and arrest the coordinator of debt collectors.
