TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Besides providing the Surabaya–Jeddah route, aviation company PT Garuda Indonesia is planning to provide direct flight to Jeddah from Makassar and Medan, starting May 1.
"Garuda customers from Makassar and Medan can carry out umrah (minor pilgrimage) more conveniently because they don't have to transit in Jakarta," said Erik Meijer, Garuda Indonesia Commercial Director, Sunday, April 13.
Similar with the opening of the Surabaya–Jeddah flight route, the opening of Makassar-Medan–Jeddah route is part of the aviation company's efforts to expand its international flight routes.
In order to provide the new route, the company will be utilizing wide body plane, Boeing 747-400, with the capacity of 454 passengers (21 passengers in the executive class and 433 passengers in the economy class). The flights will be carried out three times a week, which are on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Therefore, Garuda Indonesia will be providing flight services straight to Jeddah from four big cities in Indonesia, which are from Jakarta (13 times a week), Surabaya (4 times a week) and from Makassar and Medan (3 times a week).
