TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) is still weighing several political parties for a possible coalition in the 2014 presidential elections, among them the United Development Party (PPP). Gerindra deputy chairman Fadli Zon said this assessment was done institutionally. “But we don’t want to rant about it,” he said.
Gerindra also mulls a coalition with the Democrat Party, but, according to Fadli, Prabowo Subianto and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono have never met for talks on this issue. “We’re working on it,” he said.
Prabowo Subianto and Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono are graduates of the Armed Forces Academy (Akabri) of the 1973 class. Presently, Prabowo the current chief patron of Gerindra while SBY chairman of the Democrat Party.
Before the elections, both have met at least twice. The first meeting was on March 11, 2013 and the second on December 24, 2013. At the meetings, both discussed a string of issues, including those related to the 2014 general elections. During a press conference after the parliamentary elections in April 9, SBY announced a possible coalition with the Gerindra Party.
