TEMPO.CO, Kupang - The Elections Monitoring Agency (Bawaslu) has dispatched a legal team to Sikka regency to investigate the lost of thousands of ballots that prompted 27 polling stations (TPS) in the regency to delay the legislative elections.
“We have sent a legal team to Sikka to look into the case,” said East Nusa Tenggara Bawaslu spokesman Yemris Fointuna on Friday.
He added the legal team was tasked to investigate the alleged election violation in the regency during the national election day on April 9, 2014. He said the delayed elections at the 27 polling stations had disrupted the election process.
Yemris said the Bawaslu would forward the case to the police should it find any indication of crime during the elections, or to the Election Organizers Ethics Council if the violation was ethical.
He added the Bawaslu would also meet with the General Election Commission (KPU) of Sikka regency together with its secretariat and ad-hoc networks to elicit information regarding the unprofessional management of the election logistics.
“The KPU will find out what happened to the missing ballots in Sikka,” he said.
According to Yemris, the Bawaslu deemed the KPU had violated the election principals by organizing postponed elections.
