Putin Accuses West of Funding Radical NGOs in Ukraine

TEMPO.CO, Moscow - President Vladimir Putin told his heads of security today that the West had used human rights groups in Ukraine to spark chaos and he would not let that happen in Russia.

In his speech, Putin called on the FSB, successor of the KGB, to ramp up vigilance and improve its counter-intelligence skills to ward off any possible threats against Russia.

Putin also accused the West of having funded a number of Ukrainian radical groups to depose President Victor Yanukovich and said that NGOs serving foreign interests were also posing a similar threat to Russia.

“The current law in Russia has rendered us a situation where we need NGOs to work independently and transparently. But we will not let them be used for destructive goals,” he said.

“We will not let what happened to Ukraine happen to us, where NGOS were used by the Neo-nazi and militants were becoming soldiers of fortune to launch a non-constitutional coup d'état, accepting funds from foreign countries,” he said as quoted by Reuters
