TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Newly-elected Bogor Mayor Bima Arya Sugiarto has pledged to carry out environment-oriented development in the city. The mayor said yesterday Bogor would turn into a million-tree city and a paradise for pedestrians.
Bima, in his first speech as the mayor, told hundreds of residents at Bogor City Hall Plaza that his main agenda for the next five years was to establish corruption-free government and ensure transparency in his administration.
Earlier, Bima Arya was inaugurated as Bogor Mayor for 2014-2019 by West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan. Bima-Usmar Hariman succeeded Diani Budiarto and Achmad Ru’yat.
Ahmad Heryawan, or famously known as Aher, instructed Bima to address issues in Bogor, including public transportation.
“Public transportation services must be improved to keep up with population growth,” Aher said.
Jakarta Governor Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, meanwhile, hoped that he could tighten the ties between Jakarta and Bogor better with the new mayor than his predecessor.
“We have met before and became good friends. I hope that the ongoing cooperation in addressing traffic and flood issues will be better,” Jokowi said yesterday at Jakarta City Hall.
