TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - World philanthropist and Microsoft founder, Bill Gates, has arrived in Jakarta today.
Bill Gates will collaborate with the Tahir Foundation and other Indonesian conglomerates on a special sustainable healthcare program.
According to Dato Sri Tahir, founder of the Tahir Foundation, Bill Gates is scheduled to visit Jakarta and Yogyakarta.
During his stay in Jakarta, Tahir said Gates is set to meet with philanthropists at the Shangri-La Hotel at 3 p.m.
After visiting Jakarta, Bill Gates is also scheduled to visit Universitas Gadjah Mada in Yogyakarta.
"He will be a sponsor for one of the researches there," he said.
Both Gates and Tahir are conglomerates listed as the world's richest men according to Forbes magazine.
Gates is America’s richest man and the second richest person in the world with the wealth of US$74 billion.
In the meantime, Tahir is the 12th wealthiest person in Indonesia and the 736th in the world with the assets of US$2.05 billion (Rp23.9 trillion).
Tahir is one of the Indonesian philanthropists known for his social activities. In 2013, Tahir donated US$100 million for Gates Foundation, a social foundation owned by Bill Gates.
With Gates, Tahir collected a fund of US$ 207 million to be donated for social activities in Indonesia. From the total amount of funds, 75 percent of it is to be donated to overcome polios in Indonesia.
