TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Government's policy of raising taxes on luxurious goods (PPnBM) for luxury cars from 75 to 125 percent is predicted to reduce sales of imported cars with an engine capacity of more than 3,000cc. One of the measures carried out by importers to outsmart the policy is importing cars with an engine capacity lower than 3,000cc.
"We are ready to import cars [with an engine capacity] lower than 3,000cc," said Darwin Maspolim, Chief Operating Officer of Grandauto Dinamika on Wednesday, April 2, 2014. He said that his company has brought cars with an engine capacity of lower than 3,000cc even before the policy was implemented.
According to Darwin, the market for cars with an engine capacity of more than 3,000cc is not too large. On the other hand, the market for cars with an engine capacity of lower than 3,000 cc is considerably large.
