TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Two men smuggled meth [crystal methamphetamine] from China to Bekasi, West Jakarta, by swallowing them. They are Kus (29) and Mah (29).
The National Narcotics Agency's (BNN) Psychotropic and Precursor Chief, Brig. Gen. Agus Sofjan said the suspects slipped through the security check at Soekarno-Hatta Airport on March 17. "But, when they arrived in Bekasi, the BNN team successfully arrested them with the meth evidence weighting 876.3 grams in their bodies," he said at his office, Friday, March 28.
The suspects, he said, argued that they did not know the capsules that they swallowed contained meth. BNN officials then brought them to Kramatjati Police Hospital, East Jakarta, to take out the capsules from their bodies on March 18.
Currently the suspects are being detained at the BNN prison, Cawang, East Jakarta. They have been convicted with Article 114 of Regulation Number 35/2009 on Narcotics with the threat of death penalty or life in prison.
