TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Women Empowerment Minister Linda Gumelar hoped the Law on Placement and Protection of Indonesian Workers (TKI) will be revised soon as it is incapable of protecting female workers. "I hope it will be revised soon," she said in Jakarta on Sunday.
According to Linda, the law only contains nine clauses on protection, with only one of them consists of protection toward women, in which pregnant women are prohibited from working abroad.
"I think this is not fair for women," she said. Linda stated this regulation must be added to guarantee protection toward women.
Revision of the Law on Placement and Protection of Indonesian Workers has been agreed by the House of Representatives in 2012, but the law has not been approved and is still in discussion. Linda said her ministry also participates in the revision team.
