TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - Mount Merapi trembles shaking the ground in an eight kilometers radius earlier this afternoon. Rain of ashes and sand also poured down in some villages, including Glagaharjo and Kepuharjo, causing fear among the residents.
Lasiman Pecut, an officer at Merapi outpost, stated that Merapi trembles for five minutes. Without clear visual on the mount's peak, residents were ready to evacuate to anticipate the worst case scenario.
Chief of Geology Department Surono, confirmed that Mount Merapi exhaled smoke, followed by ashes and sand. "There is no following activity, thus the status remains normal," he said. For the moment being, Surono has sent recommendation to respective authorities to observe the volcano in detail.
