TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hajriyanto Y. Thohari, chairman of the Functional Group Party (Golkar) Executive Board, said that Golkar is ready to assume the role of an opposition party if it fails to win the 2014 general elections. "I think becoming an opposition is no less noble," said Hajriyanto on Monday, March 24, 2014.
Hajriyanto said that Golkar will also not refuse if it is offered a position in the government. He claimed that Golkar has helped many other parties in the government.
According to Hajriyanto, Golkar cadres are excellent not only in the parliament but also in the cabinet. Many Golkar cadres prefer to become bureaucrats than legislators. He said Golkar's resources can help in winning elections.
Previously in Medan, Golkar chairman Aburizal Bakrie said that Golkar would not choose to become the opposition despite winning or losing the legislative elections. "Golkar was born to uphold Pancasila as the state's fundamental norm. There is no opposition in Pancasila," he said on Thursday last week.
