TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Bekasi city government has intensified its efforts to introduce Bekasi batik as the region's pride to the society after obtaining the patent.
"Bekasi now has a batik pattern that is identical to the regions. We have to introduce this to the whole society," said Amit Riyadi, chief of Bekasi Industry, Trade and Cooperatives Agency, on Monday.
The early stage of the introduction is done to around 650 elementary school students from South Bekasi district who participate in Gerakan Mencanting (Drawing Batik Patterns event), a part of the event was held to celebrate the 17th anniversary of Bekasi on Monday.
Amit said that the activity is to instill love for batik among the young generations and prepare the next generation of batik designers in the future as Bekasi only has six batik entrepreneurs. "If there is no regeneration, the already small number of batik entrepreneurs will keep decreasing," he uttered.
