TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Head of Banyuwangi Regency Development Planning Agency, Agus Siswanto, said that the construction of Probolinggo-Banyuwangi toll road will be started in 2015.

"Next year, the Ministry of Public Work will start to conduct a study," said Agus to Tempo on Friday, March 2014.

According to Agus, the Probolinggo-Banyuwangi toll road construction has been included in the National Spatial Planning (RTRWN) and the East Java Province Spatial Planning (RTRW). The realization of the construction was targeted to commence in 2010, but it was hampered by land problems. Agus hoped that the toll road construction would start soon considering the high load on the road of Probolinggo-Banyuwangi.

"The toll road will increase the economy growth of Banyuwangi," Agus said.

The 156-kilometer long toll road is planned to pass along three regencies: 26 kilometers in Probolinggo, 103 kilometers in Situbondo, and 27 kilometers in Banyuwangi. The total land that has to be freed is planned to be as large as 1,325 hectares.

Based on the data provided by the Ministry of Public Works in the Banyuwangi Regency Development Planning Agency, Rp6.7 trillion is needed for the construction.
