TEMPO.CO, Mataram - The Gili Trawangan island in West Nusa Tenggara is experiencing a serious issue concerning horses and cats. Several tourists who visit the island complained about the two animals. Coordinator of Gili Eco Trust (GET) Delphine Robbe, stated that horses were pointed out over health issue, while the cats were seen to be overpopulated.
GET is an organization dedicated to improve the environment both in land and sea. GET and the Jakarta Animal Aid Network (JAAN) performed horse and cat health inspection twice a year.
The horses in the island were meant to be used for Cidomo, a Lombok traditional means of transportation. The cats, on the other hand, have raised concerns related to overpopulation with around 500 cats found on the shore of Gili Trawangan.
