TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - It appears that residents in the prostitution area of Kali Jodo, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, are not fully rejecting to the eviction plan. According to the residents, as long as there is compensation, then they do not have the problems to leave the area that has become their place to earn money.

"I would like to move to low-cost apartments, if there is work," said a guard at a nightspot in Kalijodo, Leman (53) when approached by Tempo, Friday, February 28.

The Jakarta Governor and Deputy Governor pair, Joko Widodo-Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, had the opportunity to visit Kali Jodo on Thursday, February 27. After the visit, Basuki said that the Jakarta Provincial Government had a discussion regarding transforming the area into an open green area. "But, this has to wait the status of low-cost apartments, whether they are ready to shelter residents," he said.

Kali Jodo RW 05 chief, Kunarso, said it is not easy to persuade the residents to move to low-cost apartments. The reason is because many residents already have permanent businesses in Kali Jodo. "Besides, if they want to move the residents, they have to speak with the community's leaders first," he said.
