Indonesian Tourism Excels in Culture and Nature

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Mari Elka Pangestu said that Indonesia has managed to improve its World Economic Forum tourism ranking, from 74 to 70, but still needs to do better. For the South East Asia region, Indonesia is ranked higher than the Philippines, Vietnam, and Cambodia but is still below Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.
"Indonesian cultural and natural resources can be used to promote tourism," Mari told Tempo on Thursday, February 27, 2014.
She said that Indonesian natural resources is ranked 6th among the 130 WEF countries, and price competitiveness is also high, at 9th. Meanwhile, in terms of culture Indonesia was ranked at number 30. Mari added that health and hygeine ranking was also low, but she did not specify the exact ranking.
