TEMPO.CO, Piraeus - Manchester United has left Greece in shame after 0-2 defeat against Olympiakos Piraeus in the first leg of Champions League top-16 match. Playing in home turf Georgios Karaiskaki Stadium earlier today, Olympiakos booked an important winning with two goals from Alejandro Dominguez and Joel Campbell.
United began the game in confidence with 61 percent ball possession. However, the boys in red were lacking in goal-scoring opportunity, creating only a few shots. The disaster hit the Red Devils in the 38th, when a shot from Alejandro Dominguez deflected a shot from Giannis Maniatis. The two teams walked down the aisle at half time with 1-0 for Olympiakos.
On the second half, United responded by still dominating the game. Yet it was Joel Campbell that concluded the game that night with a beautiful goal from out of penalty box. Moyes under pressure sent in supersubs Danny Welbeck and Shinji Kagawa. The two players, despite making more significant attempts, failed to book a goal in Greece.
The 0-2 loss against Olympiakos forces United to nail the second leg in Old Trafford, needing three goals to proceed to the quarterfinal. Olympiakos, on the other hand, claimed that the result is highly satisfying, requiring only a draw in Manchester to sink the English giant from Champions League campaign.
