TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of Communications for the Ministry of Transportation, Bambang S. Ervan, said Adi Sumarmo Airport Solo is still closed for operations today.
"It was scheduled for operations today, but due to the cleaning process, the airport is closed until 6 a.m. tomorrow," Bambang said this morning.
However, Bambang said the Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) or flight delay information can be prolonged depending on the evaluations conducted every afternoon. The cleaning is mostly done on the visual landing locators, Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) and other vital equipments.
At least seven airports were shut down due to the eruption of Mount Kelud last week. On Saturday, four airports - Abdurrahman Saleh Airport Malang, Juanda Airport Surabaya, Tunggul Wulung Airport Cilacap, and Ahmad Yani Airport Semarang - were back in full operations. On Sunday, Husein Sastranegara Airport Bandung was also reopened.
Today, only two airports still remain closed: Adi Sumarmo Airport in Solo, and Adi Sucipto in Yogyakarta.
Adi Sucipto Airport serves 110 flights every day while Adi Sumarmo Airport serves 48, exclusive of international flights.
