TEMPO.CO, Kediri - The Environment Health Engineering and Disease Control of the Ministry of Health is conducting air quality measuring on several spots in Kediri, East Java which is affected by Mount Kelud's volcanic dust after the eruption. The air quality is believed to be harmful for the refugees, especially for those who wear no masks.
The air samples were sent to a laboratory in Surabaya for examination and the result is expected after 24 hours. Ahmad Sutrisno, one of the researchers said yesterday that the measuring was done to anticipate the health problems that may threaten the refugees.
Even though the result has yet to be known, Sutrisno believed air quality in Kediri is very bad, while there are only minimum stock of masks in the refugee camp. The children below five years are playing on the dust without a mask on.
Anita, one of the refugees in Brenggolo Village, said she gave her children no masks since there are only adult-sized ones available.
